AMSTERDAM.- As part of the Brasil Festival Amsterdam, Foam is showing the work of the young Brazilian photographer Breno Rotatori (Saõ Paulo, 1988) in Foam 3h. Rotatori makes photos and videos inspired by his daily surroundings. He creates poetic stories in an intuitive way that, through their special colour and use of light, carry the viewer into a world which lies between reality, remembrance and fiction. Habitar o tempo (live for the moment) shows a selection of photos from the series Bloco de Notas and the video Multiverso.

In the Bloco de Notas series, Rotatori has photographically captured personal experiences and the feelings that accompany them. Rather than being realistic portrayals of a given instant in time, the photos show poetic, dreamy and nostalgic depictions. They portray the moments between the experience itself and the coloured remembrance of that same period. Together they form passages in Rotatori’s visual diary.

Multiverso is like poetry. The video is inspired by poetic elements, mainly metaphoric language and metre (rhythm). From the outset, Rotatori intuitively goes in search of a new construction of images. The result is a new visual narrative, through which the viewer can become immersed in a dreamlike state.

Breno Rotatori earned a Bachelor’s degree in photography from Senac University in Saõ Paulo in 2009. In the same year he was awarded the Porto Seguro Photography Award in Saõ Paulo, in the category Revelation. In 2010 Rotatori was selected for the Foam Paul Huf Award and a selection from his Manélud series was published in Foam Magazine’s Talent Issue.
