VADUZ.- “An Open Mind” is the title of the new jubilee publication by the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein summarising the history of the institution and the exhibitions and events it has organ-ised in the first ten years of its existence. The prestigious volume, made possible by the generous support of the Centrum Bank Foundation, is published by Benteli Verlag, Berne.

The Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, housed in a building that was largely financed by private donations, was officially inaugurated in November 2000. With the Kunstmuseum Liechten-stein, the team of architects Meinrad Morger and Heinrich Degelo along with Christian Kerez designed a building of great complexity and discrete simplicity that immediately gar-nered international acclaim.

Since then, the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein has succeeded in establishing itself as an innovative institution and a source of inspiration both in Liechten-stein and internationally. The Principality’s national gallery is an important agent on the international exhibition and art scene, is identity-forming for Liechtenstein itself, and func-tions as an educational institution for the whole region. Over the past ten years it has mounted almost 100 exhibitions, most of them in-house productions.

In selecting the themes for the temporary exhibitions and presenting works from its own collection, the museum maintains “an open mind”. This open mind stands for the unusual and novel forms of presentation, for a particular approach in the communication of art, and is also to be understood as a challenge to visitors to the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein.

The jubilee publication An Open Mind provides an overview of the museum’s work so far. It outlines all the exhibitions and collection presentations, as well as the most important fringe events of the past ten years and is thus an important reference work for the future. More-over, the publication contains a comprehensive essay by the museum director reviewing the genesis of the museum building and the work of the first decade.
