Nusa Dua, Bali Indonesia — This month, Museum Pasifika in cooperation with Ministry of Trade and Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is holding ASEAN Art Exhibition  on the occasion of the ASEAN Heads of State’s Summit and ASEAN Fair from 24 October  – 23 November 2011.   Officially opened by the President of Republic Indonesia on 24 October 2011 as part of ASEAN FAIR,  the ASEAN Art Exhibition can be visited  up to 23 November 2011 for public  in Museum Pasifika.

Open since 2006, the Museum Pasifika offers a vision of two great regions of the world, Asia and the Pacific, mirroring the unique position of Indonesia and Bali at their crossing point. To its visitors, the various collections of the museum, presented in 11 thematic rooms, propose a fascinating art voyage throughout a wide area that covers the 10 ASEAN countries, the Melanesian and Polynesian Pacific, as well, for a few items, South and East Asia (India, Japan, China). As the host country of the museum, Indonesia is of course well represented at the museum, with paintings and a few sculptures by national as well as by expatriate resident artists. And the collection of premier art from the Pacific islands is one of the most complete  in the world.

However, for the ASEAN Art Exhibition we propose a set up aimed at representing on an equal footing the 10 nations of the association, namely: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, The Philippines and Vietnam. The artists selected, two per country are either nationals of these countries or artists with a long association with them. Several, like Lee Man Fong, Georges Groslier and Antonio Blanco, cover two countries. Whatever their origin, all share a common love and admiration for the people and cultures of the region. Their stylistic spectrum runs from naturalist to contemporary. This may reflect individual choices, but also differences in historical circumstances.

Alongside with the spirit of togetherness that characterizes the ASEAN, this exhibition illustrates –paraphrasing the motto of Indonesia– the Unity in Diversity of the ASEAN region. The ASEAN Art Exhibition is more than an exhibition – it is  a statement – a statement without words but expressed through the soul and brush of the artists whose works unite the cultures of the ASEAN countries in one single spirit of togetherness and a community.

It is a great honor for me that the Museum Pasifika has been chosen to hold an ASEAN Art Exhibition art on the occasion of the ASEAN Heads of State’s Summit and ASEAN Fair.

“As the host country of the museum, Indonesia is of course well represented at the museum, with paintings and a few sculptures by national as well as by expatriate resident artists. And the collection of premier art from the Pacific islands is one of the most complete  in the world.” Mentioned Philippe Augier, The Founder of Museum PASIFIKA.
