NEW YORK, NY.- CIRCA PR returns with its fifth edition to the Puerto Rico Convention Center in the heart of San Juan with nearly 30 international galleries. Having achieved worldwide visibility, CIRCA PR has earned a reputation for its intimate atmosphere and selection of carefully curated local and international emergent art. CIRCA PR has cultivated and fostered an important group of local collectors with exceptional programming both in and beyond the fair’s walls. This year, CIRCA PR 2010 celebrates with a new challenging curatorial component, CIRCA LABS under the direction of Pablo León de la Barra.

CIRCA LABS curated by Pablo León de la Barra
This year the CIRCA LABS will provide a more experimental aspect to the fair, curated by renowned artist-curator Pablo León de la Barra. Conceived to promote interdisciplinary and alternative artistic proposals, CIRCA LABS aims to enable younger audiences by offering a more democratic and less intimidating approach to contemporary culture.

CIRCA LABS offers a cross-cultural experience in which urban art, live music, performance, styling, skating, tattooing, and product customization mix- challenging traditional approaches with contemporary culture.

Pablo del Barra will utilize large containers to display his curated series of young cutting-edge galleries with non-traditional proposals, often at a price range more accessible for emerging collectors.

“I would like to think of the LABS as a laboratory to explore possible cultural scenarios in Puerto Rico, as a kind of Village Fair/Market/Open Museum, where galleries could take over the containers and become rooms of a Kunsthalle in Puerto Rico,” Pablo de la Barra.

Chambre des Collectionneurs. CIRCA’S Collector’s Program
The singular charm of Old San Juan, the rich and varied local art scene with artists like Allora & Calzadilla, Bubú Negrón, Michael Linares, or Melvin Martínez, among others, the outstanding private collector’s houses, in addition to the especially warm weather of Puerto Rico – it’s no wonder that collectors keep coming back.

CIRCA´s Collector Program is edgy, funky and above all highly surprising thanks to Puerto Rico’s discrete quality and caliber of collecting, both local and international. Five local collections will open their doors for CIRCA PR’s VIP guests:

CIRCA PR’s Collector’s Program offers tailored programming for its collector and press groups upon request. CIRCA PR is known for offering exciting art in a more personal, intimate, and one-to-one basis, far from the madding crowds of most art fairs.
