NEW YORK, NY.- Guernsey’s Auction House will host two unique auctions at New York City’s Park Avenue Armory on September 24th and 25th. The auction powerhouse has amassed two mutually exclusive collections, which will be made available to the public.

On September 24, Guernsey ’s will host an Iconic Objects Auction. Each of the lots in this unique sale will contain a significant item (or collection of items) that relate to a person or event that impacted our nation’s culture or history. The auction will include the only known recordings of 26 speeches presented by Martin Luther King, formerly top secret plans for the D-Day invasion, and the Maltese Falcon statuette from the movie of that name. Also included are meaningful items from such extraordinary individuals as John F. Kennedy, Albert Einstein, Frank Sinatra, Harry James, Charlie Parker, Mickey Mantle, Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Babe Ruth, John Lennon, Michael Jackson, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, and the Boston Red Sox, among others (detailed list attached).

On the following day, September 25, Guernsey ‘s will be conducting a wonderful sale of vintage carousel horses and menagerie figures. For generations, no one seemed to care about carousel animals. The majority of these hand-carved figures that joyfully spun around whirling carousels for more than a century ended up being destroyed to make way for newer amusement park rides. In 1983, that all changed when Guernsey ‘s conducted the very first Carousel Auction. That landmark sale of one man’s carousel collection brought a then-astonishing $1 million and the rest, as they say, is history. Museums and preservation groups now fiercely protect cherished antique carved horses and other animals (known collectively as “menagerie” figures). The efforts of the most skilled carvers, who worked from the 1880′s through the beginning of the Depression, is now widely admired… but because of the rarity of authentic, vintage carousel carvings, there hasn’t been a major Carousel Auction in fifteen years. That is all changing as Guernsey ‘s proudly will be selling approximately fifty of these wonderful figures.
