Digital and graphic artist Kyle Lambert has demonstrated the potential of Apple’s iPad by using his finger and a painting application to create a photo-realist portrait of Beyonce.

And the artist from Altrincham, Cheshire, has also produced a video, above, which shows the six hour-work cut down to just two minutes of stop-motion photography.

He created the portrait using the Brushes app, which he uploaded a month ago when iPad came out.

He had previously used the same app to create pictures on his iPhone, but the size of the iPad has enabled him to produce a much more detailed work.

After experimenting with the app for a few weeks his portrait of Beyonce was his first attempt at a photo-realist picture.

Lambert, 22, said: “I had done a couple of practice pieces but this was the first time I’d done a proper realistic piece. Before that it was just experimenting.

“My artwork combines traditional painting techniques with cutting edge technology to produce rich, realistic portraits and character based concepts and designs.

“The iPad expands the possibilities for artists like myself to take digital artwork creation away from the computer and out into the world.”

Lambert specialises in painting, illustration, animation and 3D motion graphics, working for individual clients and often producing company logos.

Most of his work is digital, and his tools are not the traditional palette and brushes but an Apple Mac Pro with a Wacom Cintiq 21 UX Graphics tablet. When away from his Mac he uses a combination of sketchbook, SLR and iPhone to develop his ideas.
