Smithsonian Prepares for Hurricane Irene

WASHINGTON.- Smithsonian museums and the National Zoo are preparing for possible severe weather this weekend along the East Coast due to Hurricane Irene. Smithsonian museums in Washington, D.C., and the National Zoo are open; however, if weather worsens over the weekend, this status could change. WASHINGTON, DC.- The Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian opened “R.C. Gorman: Early Prints and Drawings, 1966–1974,” an exhibition of 28 drawings and lithographs by internationally renowned Navajo artist R.C. Gorman. The exhibition represents his early work with the female form and the Indian “madonnas” that later brought him global acclaim.
