Works to Go on Display at the 37th London International Fine Art Fair at Olympia

LONDON.- The London International Fine Art Fair (LIFAF) at Olympia is the first fair of the Summer Season, presenting the most broad ranging fine art and antiques event when it opens on Friday 4 June 2010. With a 37 year history, LIFAF is London’s largest and most established fair of its kind. Bringing together more than 150 prestigious British and international dealers, private buyers, curators, interior designers and devotees from around the world, the fair reinforces London ’s role as a focal point for art and antiques each June.

After a complete refurbishment, the grand, historic venue of Olympia will be transformed into an arena for commerce and appreciation for dealers, collectors and lovers of art and antiques, paintings of all periods, sculpture, furniture, modern design, jewellery, silver, textiles, books and objects d’art.

A veritable treasure trove, with objects for sale from a couple of hundred to millions of pounds, the fair features a refined and eclectic range of works that span the centuries:

• Paintings and drawings include pieces by fifteenth century Italian Masters such as Neri di Bicci, eighteenth century British Masters such as Constable and Turner

• Pop artists such as Roy Lichtenstein and more recent works by Lynn Chadwick and Julian Schnabel

• Important pieces of jewellery, designed by Man Ray and other works from the collections of Joan Crawford and Andy Warhol, and from the Italian jewellers Sabbadini

• Impressive furniture including a French Empire giltwood bed that belonged to the famous French minister and diplomat – Charles Maurice Talleyrand, a medal winning Cabinet from the Paris Exposition of 1848, a 1980’s bronze armchair from Claude Lalanne

• Books such as a first edition copy of Adam Smith’s seminal An Inquiry to the Nature and Cause of Wealth of Nations

• The oldest works on sale are the 65 million year old natural sculptures – Cretaceous period dinosaur skulls

A special exhibition, “Young Masters Revisited “brings together the old and the new with contemporary artists responding to the work of Old Masters.

The never seen before loan exhibition “Modern British Masters: Pictures from the Bryan Ferry Collection” will bring together an exceptional group of fifteen early twentieth century British paintings, by artists such as William Orpen, Augustus John, Duncan Grant, Vanessa Bell and Walter Sickert.
