Firooz Zahedi: One of the Main in Hollywood

Firooz Zahedi was born in Iran in 1949, grew up in UK and lives in the USA since 1969. He is famous for his celebrity portraits photography and is often referred as one of the main photographers in Hollywood.

After graduating from Georgetown University, Zahedi enrolled at the Corcoran School of Art where he studied photography and fine art. He began his photographic career in the mid 1970s as the Washington correspondent for Andy Warhol’s Interview magazine. At this same time, he established a relationship with Elizabeth Taylor, moving to Los Angeles to be her personal photographer on her film projects.

Los Angeles became Zahedi’s base where he concentrated on celebrity portraiture, accumulating a large body of editorial imagery for such magazines as The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, InStyle, Time, Esquire, Premiere, British GQ, Australian Vogue and Elle Decor.

In addition to editorial work, Zahedi has produced images for such iconoclastic films as “Pulp Fiction,” “The Addams Family I” & “II,” “Get Shorty,” “Edward Scissorhands,” “Grand Canyon,” and “Introducing Dorothy Dandridge” as well as “Mickey Blue Eyes,” and “Jackie Brown.” He has worked repeatedly with some of the most prominent stars ranging from Meryl Streep, Meg Ryan, Robert DeNiro, and John Travolta to Bette Midler, Barbara Streisand, and Diana Ross. Zahedi was recently featured in MOMA’s exhibition “Fame after Photography”which explored the art of celebrity portraiture.

In his personal studio, Zahedi explores the forms and lines of nature as expressed through the human form and florals. In this body of work, the artist is exploring aspects of traditional photography combined with a modern design sense and technology. His work has appeared in numerous books and exhibitions, and is represented by top photography galleries on both coasts.
